Congratulating Diane Johnson, 2022 Romaine P. Mackie Leadership Award Winner

Congratulations Diane Johnson, 2022 Romaine P. Mackie Leadership Award winner. The award was presented in a ceremony at the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) convention in Orlando, Florida. The Mackie award was established to honor a person who has demonstrated leadership in CEC and in the field in programs and services for exceptional children and youth and their families.
Diane has served in many areas of CEC including Chair of the Interdivisional Caucus, president of the Pioneers Division, elected offices in other Divisions and highlighted by her election to President of CEC. Assisting, advising, coaching, and supporting current and emerging leaders continues to be a key activity for Diane. Through strong collaborations and partnerships, she works effectively with elected leaders at state/provincial, division, and national levels and with CEC staff members, always supporting the vision and mission of the Council. A passion for Diane is researching and documenting the one-hundred-year history of CEC to help inform policies and legislation for those with exceptionalities as CEC moves forward. Receiving the Mackie Award at the one-hundred-year celebration was uniquely fitting.
